WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

RBI focuses on using expressive writing, design-oriented work, photography, media, research, and community input to fuel fat positive, body acceptance, discussion, and outreach. Our goal is to redefine the way we view and think about body image, size, fat, discrimination, health, fitness, wellness, mental/chronic illness, stigma, and other related topics.

We are constantly redefining our own perspectives, and therefore tend to write a lot about our personal experiences. Many followers and contributors are living with anorexia, bulimia, body dysmorphic disorder, depression, and a variety of other body image disorders or mental illnesses, so please be respectful and remember that health applies differently to everyone. Any and all potentially triggering content will be prefaced with a trigger warning.

RBI supports all races, genders, classes, and sizes. We try our best to make this a safe space for everyone. If we are not doing our job or checking our privilege, we invite you to please inform us.

Some of the artwork you see here has been created by our founder or moderators, some sourced when applicable. Please be kind enough to source this blog whenever you share it's content.

We are not health professionals. Any and all advice provided on this blog is supported only by our own research, studies, and personal experiences; nothing more.

This blog is part of the Safe Space Network.

Interested in contributing to my design project?

All body types are welcome to submit!

I need photos of you, preferably three. In your bathing suit. High-resolution.

The higher the resolution, the more I can do with your images!

If you’d rather not sport a bathing suit, it can be a leotard or close-fitting clothing of any kind (leggings and tank-tops?) that clearly defines the outline of your body. Preferably a solid color, no patterns.

If I decide to do more with your photos for my project, I would also like to ask you a few questions about the relationship you have with your body…So please provide an e-mail along with your picture submission if you don’t mind a little Q & A.

Your photos should be straight, full-body shots looking directly at the camera. For references, SEE THIS graphic I made as part of my design process. Look into the camera, feet somewhat together, arms at your sides.

DO NOT take a photo of yourself in the mirror with the camera in the shot.

DO NOT cut off your feet, arms or legs. We need to see everything!

DO NOT use a webcam or something that will result in a low-quality photo. A point and shoot camera is fine, I would recommend setting it up with a timer.

If you want to get a little more creative and include other poses, that’s okay too! Just for the specific project I’m working on there’s a kind of consistency I need to keep in the design.

Any other photo submissions will be used in a poster series I’m hoping to start this summer.

Help take my project to a level that encompasses body image topics, questions and stories of all kinds.

Deadline is indefinite, submit at your leisure. I will be keeping the photos for use in this and other projects.

Submit here!
