WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

RBI focuses on using expressive writing, design-oriented work, photography, media, research, and community input to fuel fat positive, body acceptance, discussion, and outreach. Our goal is to redefine the way we view and think about body image, size, fat, discrimination, health, fitness, wellness, mental/chronic illness, stigma, and other related topics.

We are constantly redefining our own perspectives, and therefore tend to write a lot about our personal experiences. Many followers and contributors are living with anorexia, bulimia, body dysmorphic disorder, depression, and a variety of other body image disorders or mental illnesses, so please be respectful and remember that health applies differently to everyone. Any and all potentially triggering content will be prefaced with a trigger warning.

RBI supports all races, genders, classes, and sizes. We try our best to make this a safe space for everyone. If we are not doing our job or checking our privilege, we invite you to please inform us.

Okay, so I also have chronic migraines and I’ve tried every single kind of headache-soothing method known to existence because I’m allergic to NSAIDS and acetaminophen doesn’t always work and I haven’t been able to find a proper way of managing pain.

ANYWAY. First, lavender is a good thing for headaches.

I have a lot of lavender things, including a lavender-scented heating pad, which is nice for draping around and relaxing muscles.

That tin of headache soother above has jojoba in it. It’s quite nice, doesn’t exactly extinguish headaches but does in fact “soothe” so I suppose it does its job.

Also just straight-up peppermint oil is good, I sometimes jab a tiny tiny amount on my philtrum.

Sometimes I wrap an ice pack in a towel and alternate from the back of my neck to my forehead every ten minutes. This actually works for me sometimes, but it’s hit-or-miss and possibly just coincidental.

Deep breathing. Stretch. Roll your shoulders, roll your head, rub your muscles, etc etc. Massage your scalp and temples and the nape of your neck and your upper back muscles. If it doesn’t work, at least it feels good!

Other than that, I’ll try to take a walk or go outside if I can but my migraines are often light-sensitive and nauseating so I usually curl up into a blanket burrito and turn off all the lights until it goes away.
