Ok, this is hella problematic. I just sent FYCF an ask about this, because that’s really.. not the best way to put things.
1) I’m not a shape. I’m a person.
2) Fat Acceptance and Fatshion is not about wearing stuff that’s “flattering” and makes you more attractive and “acceptable” to society. It’s about wearing what makes you feel good, what you like, what you think is cool looking. I may not be the “right shape” for peplum styles, but I think it looks cool, so I wear it anyway. I hope I get a response from these guys.
Bah, fycf needs to develop an analysis of the social construction of what is the “right” way to dress for one’s body. “Flattering” is constructed to mean thin. To reproduce this idea in a fat positive space just REALLY sucks. I unfollowed fycf a long time ago because of shit like this, I guess they haven’t improved.
I’m glad to see I wasn’t alone in feeling severely uncomfortable about their response. I do not like people even implying there is a right or wrong way for people to dress themselves. Regardless of size, shape, etc. It’s just one easy way for me to figure out I’m wasting my time exposing myself to your brand of body positivity/fat positivity (pro tip: it isn’t body positivity or fat positivity). Fuck flattering.
Yeah, I pretty much vehemently agree with all of the above.
