Do you know what’s not fucking funny? Exploiting someone’s illness for amusement. Get your ableist bullshit out of the OCD tag.
What the ever loving fuck.
You know a great way of disarming things we’re scared of or worry us?
Laugh about it.
Are things like homophobia or mental “disorders” or fat shaming serious problems that deserve our attention? Yes, of course. But don’t lose your sense of humor. Don’t let that big scary thing stop you from laughing. The most amazing people, and the most confident, I’ve seen were able to laugh at themselves. Because when you can laugh at it, it becomes that much smaller and manageable of a problem.
Fuck you.
I can laugh at myself and do all the time. But that doesn’t mean you have the right to laugh at me.
This “joke” wasn’t about someone with OCD poking fun of their habits or behaviours. This “joke” wasn’t someone trying to make their own disorder more manageable. This “joke” was about someone without OCD thinking it’s hilarious to exploit other people’s compulsions for their own gain. That’s not only ableist as fuck, it’s down right disgusting.
And FYI, “laughing” about debilitating conditions doesn’t magically make them manageable. Laughing about OCD doesn’t make it fucking go away.
