WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

RBI focuses on using expressive writing, design-oriented work, photography, media, research, and community input to fuel fat positive, body acceptance, discussion, and outreach. Our goal is to redefine the way we view and think about body image, size, fat, discrimination, health, fitness, wellness, mental/chronic illness, stigma, and other related topics.

We are constantly redefining our own perspectives, and therefore tend to write a lot about our personal experiences. Many followers and contributors are living with anorexia, bulimia, body dysmorphic disorder, depression, and a variety of other body image disorders or mental illnesses, so please be respectful and remember that health applies differently to everyone. Any and all potentially triggering content will be prefaced with a trigger warning.

RBI supports all races, genders, classes, and sizes. We try our best to make this a safe space for everyone. If we are not doing our job or checking our privilege, we invite you to please inform us.

i overall have grown to love my body the way it is.  i struggle daily with confidence to walk out in some of the outfits i’d love to wear, but i am human.

yesterday, i was taking my lunch break to grab a panini when i seen this pair of individuals riding bikes.  one a younger man in his teens and trailing behind him a woman.  this woman was truly empowering, i had to stop and jaw drop.

she was riding a magenta-colored 3-wheel beach cruiser… sporting high-waisted hiphugger shorts, paired with a tube top, dangly earrings, and a platinum blonde shaved dome.  her curves and belly wrapped up in all of it.  i wish i could’ve bottled up the confidence emitting from this woman.

the point is… when you dress, don’t worry about what others think - one and two - do it not only for you, but for people around you that struggle to find the confidence to do it themselves.

truly an inspiration!  today i’m sporting a slightly-too-short tank and my belly is happily dancing amongst the cotton and denim. normally i’d want to hide it away but today i am embracing it.
