Critically thinking about the media I consume (especially with an eye towards racial and social justice) does not mean that I’m trying to be “politically correct” or ruining the fun for everyone. I’m not towing the line of identity politics (in part because I believe identity politics to be flawed and certainly not the answer to everything). Critically engaging with the world around me doesn’t mean that I have no fun, or that I’m incapable of viewing something problematic or finding value in things I find to be problematic . It just means keeping my brain turned on and—when I do turn my brain off—being open to the criticism of others, or coming back to the that particular text later with an open mind and a critical eye.
It’s really not that hard.
I often think about the same things.
