My name is Haley, a 23 year old designer interested in the relationship between health and aesthetics, feminism, and the way body image has been presented in the media over time.

This blog focuses on using design-oriented work, media, research, writing, and community input to fuel body positive discussion and outreach. My role in creating this blog is to help do my part to redefine the way we view and think about body image, size, fat politics, health, fitness, wellness, and other related topics.

I am also constantly redefining my own perspective, and therefore tend to write a lot about my personal experiences as a cis, fat, white female with anxiety and depression. Many of my followers and contributors are dealing with anorexia, bulimia, body dysmorphic disorder, depression, and other body image disorders or mental illnesses, so please be respectful and remember that health applies differently to everyone. Any and all potentially triggering content will be prefaced with a trigger warning.

RBI supports all races, genders, classes, and sizes. I try my best to make this a safe space for everyone. If I am not doing my job or checking my privilege, I invite you to please inform me.

One of the great things about Tumblr is that people use it for just about every conceivable kind of expression. People being people, though, that means that Tumblr sometimes gets used for things that are just wrong. We are deeply committed to supporting and defending our users’…

I take issue with this. Mostly because I can’t see a good way for Tumblr to draw the line  between community and promotion. For instance if I start whining about finding a place to hide my sharps, is that me engaging in promotion or soliciting for promotion or is that just me seeking community? Can I post pictures of SI still or is that promotion? Put simply, I don’t think the language is clear enough to be implemented without turning into a witch hunt. For instance if this was a law being considered it would be void for vagueness because there are too many aspects not clearly defined. 

Because I can tell you first hand that I didn’t understand how bad my SI was until someone else saw it and told me. I worry for those who use Tumblr to that end. 

The post does state the following:

Online dialogue about these acts and conditions is incredibly important; this prohibition is intended to reach only those blogs that cross the line into active promotion or glorification. For example, joking that you need to starve yourself after Thanksgiving or that you wanted to kill yourself after a humiliating date is fine, but recommending techniques for self-starvation or self-mutilation is not.

Intentions appear to be in the right place.
