“You should be telling yourself, based upon fact and science and medicine, that having a fat body does not equate to having an unhealthy one”.

Perhaps not, but it’s much more likely according to “fact and science and medicine”. I’ve seen several posts like this over the last few days. My views may seem controversial to some, but epidemiologically speaking, an obese or overweight person is more likely to have health problems throughout their lives than a person of normal weight, or dare I say it, a person who is marginally underweight. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule; up to 20% of obese Americans are healthy and this may apply to the poster (source).
I fully support and commend the poster’s positive attitude towards her body and her image, however, I don’t think that being overweight or obese should be promoted as healthy, just as being underweight should also be discouraged due to associated health risks. On a more personal note, I love my body and my health, and that’s one reason why I will never allow myself to become overweight: I may suffer from ill health one day and I’d rather not make it statistically more likely than it is.

Hey, you! You should read this! There are some really interesting facts about obesity, health and metabolic fitness up in there.
Bodies come in all sizes. They’re all fucking normal. We’re all going to die one day so let’s stop focusing on which bodies are the healthiest, most “virtuous” bodies and just live our lives without policing other people’s bodies please.
I’ve been seeing a lot of “Oh I’m all about positive body image….BUT” type of responses lately.
Stoppit with the “buts” people!
(And more with the “butts”.)
(Big fat ones.)
