My name is Haley, a 23 year old designer interested in the relationship between health and aesthetics, feminism, and the way body image has been presented in the media over time.

This blog focuses on using design-oriented work, media, research, writing, and community input to fuel body positive discussion and outreach. My role in creating this blog is to help do my part to redefine the way we view and think about body image, size, fat politics, health, fitness, wellness, and other related topics.

I am also constantly redefining my own perspective, and therefore tend to write a lot about my personal experiences as a cis, fat, white female with anxiety and depression. Many of my followers and contributors are dealing with anorexia, bulimia, body dysmorphic disorder, depression, and other body image disorders or mental illnesses, so please be respectful and remember that health applies differently to everyone. Any and all potentially triggering content will be prefaced with a trigger warning.

RBI supports all races, genders, classes, and sizes. I try my best to make this a safe space for everyone. If I am not doing my job or checking my privilege, I invite you to please inform me.

a little something about moustaches and health in case you were feeling bored

the question about health was a response to this video (health question at the end). i’m not very articulate in this video but what i was trying to say was:

1. the ways we learn to enforce/police the health of others is whack, let’s get over ourselves

2. down with monolithic frameworks of health that leave out certain bodies and construct white-able-middle -class-thin-bodies as beacons of health and good citizenship. this often makes other bodies that don’t fit into these health narratives seem monstrous, out of control, lazy or in need of guidance/entitled/unsolicited advice. we don’t need you to police our bodies, so step back or we will finally end this by eating you

3. i care about my personal health but i am not super interested in defining health for other people. all of our bodies and experiences are so different, so i’m not really about trying to speak for other people right now about what they are doing or how valid their lifestyle choices are.
